As founder and managing member of Southwest Florida Estate Planning, PLLC, I am committed to providing my clients with sound guidance and trusted counsel on all matters relating to estate planning and elder law.
As a husband, father, son, brother and friend, I understand how important the relationships are with those we love. The last thing I want is for my family and friends to be burdened by improper planning and get stuck shuffling complex legal documents in countless courtrooms. As an estate planning & elder law attorney, I help my clients navigate and plan for life’s inevitable and unexpected events. I help ensure your goals are realized, your risks are minimized, and provide you with that which has no price – peace of mind.
Every family has their own story, and every client has his or her own hopes and goals for the future. By getting a complete picture of a client’s situation and a full understanding of their goals and objectives, I craft individual estate plans that will achieves their desires and promote family harmony so they can move forward with clarity and confidence.
I am deeply passionate about what I do and estate planning and elder law is all that I do. My firm’s laser-focus on these areas of law allows us to work solely to protect our clients’ legacies for generations to come.
I know that talking about estate planning or elder care issues can be uncomfortable as well as confusing, so I try to put my clients at ease and explain the complex world of estate planning and elder law in plain English. I promise to each of my clients to return calls promptly, work diligently, communicate clearly, and take the time to appreciate their goals, desires, values and questions.
I earned a B.A. in Intelligence Studiesas well as a B.A. in World Languages and Cultures from Mercyhurst College.
With a commitment to service, I was awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship to college in preparation to become a United States Army Officer. However, before my senior year, during training at Fort Lewis, Washington, I was medically disqualified due to a congenital malformation of my hands. With the ability to serve our country extinguished, I searched for new ways to serve our community. I spent two years as a volunteer in FrancisCorps, assisting those in need here in the states as well as deaf children in Costa Rica, becoming fluent in Spanish and proficient in sign language while in Latin America.
After returning from my service in the FrancisCorps, I earned my law degree from Ave Maria School of Law,where I was president of the Moot Court Board. I also participated in the Public Service Fellows Program at the Legal Aid Service of Collier County, helping underserved populations get legal representation and counsel they needed to protect their rights and preserve their families. Prior to opening my own law firm, I worked at a firm in Naples focusing on civil litigation and estate planning. I am the current resident of the Foundation for Developmentally Disabled in Naples, and currently serve as chair of Leadership Bonita – Chamber of Commerce in Bonita Springs.
When not serving clients or our community, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son, taking advantage of all that Southwest Florida has to offer.
“Ed did an outstanding job of understanding our needs and walking us through the Estate Planning Process. He was the ever present professional in all aspects of Estate Planning, as well as in delivering the services and products in a timely manner. We would highly recommend Ed to our friends and family for all their Estate Planning needs."
“Ed is thorough and complete. Covered all aspects of our estate planning, including details I would never have thought of. I have already recommended Ed to several friends and associates."
“Having Ed Smith prepare our Estate Planning turned out to be an easy and pleasant experience for us. Ed is not only very professional, but his skill in listening to us made us comfortable and eased any anxieties we had."
Aside from the above, we would also highly recommend him because of his ability and knowledge to simplify what was a daunting task for us. During our visits, it was like talking to a compassionate friend and family member.
He encouraged us to call with any questions, which we did and he responded quickly. We believe we made a wise decision in having Ed Smith prepare our Estate Planning.
